The Grand Sophy - Georgette Heyer

Okay, I like Sophy as a character but I'm not entirely enamored of the story. First, there is constant use of negative stereotypes--the 'lazy Spaniard' and the blatant antisemitism in particular. Next there is the horrible narration on the audio--another example of a narrator not doing her home work and mispronouncing things, particularly the Spanish words that were sprinkled throughout the book. Besides which her 'Spanish' accent came out sounding like a mish-mash of Slavic and Italian. I just gringed every time that character came on the scene. In Spanish the 'z' sound does not buzz, it lisps like a 'th.' I screamed every time the character spoke!

Otherwise, an enjoyable read but not one of my more favorite GH titles.
