The Boys of Summer: The Classic Narrative of Growing Up Within Shouting Distance of Ebbets Field, Covering the Jackie Robinson Dodgers, and What's Happened to Everybody Since - Roger Kahn, Phil Gigante

A very personal history of a few rather crucial years in baseball history. Recommended not just for lovers of the sport but for those interested in American social history.

My only complain is the the reader did not do his homework and mispronounced place names. That drives me nuts. Woonsocket is pronounced not as it looks but Win-SOCK-it and Cambridge starts with "came" not "cam." There were a couple of other egregious errors but since I live near Woonsocket and since I had to correct him each time he mispronounced it, that one sticks in my mind.
